Living in or near Oklahoma City means you are never left without a mind-blowing day trip to take the whole family on. While there are countless activities designed for families, we recommend you start by visiting the following destinations.

Oklahoma City Zoo (View Map)

The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden is a zoo and botanical garden situated in northeast Oklahoma City’s Adventure District.

The zoo spans 119 acres and houses approximately 1,900 species. Except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day, it is open every day.

National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum (View Map)

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is one of the best museums in Oklahoma City thanks to over 28,000 Western and American Indian items and artifacts on display.

The museum also boasts the largest collection of American rodeo pictures, barbed wire samples, saddlery, and early rodeo trophies.

Frontier City (View Map)

Frontier City is the premier Oklahoma City amusement park and guests absolutely love its western theme. The park first opened its doors in 1958 and is one of three Six Flags parks not officially labeled as such.

After Six Flags New England, Frontier City is the second-oldest Six Flags park. Most notable rides include Brain Drain, featuring a seven-story loop, Diamondback, a looping speed run, and Silver Bullet, the fastest roller coaster in the park.

Museum of Osteology (View Map)

The Museum of Osteology is a private museum dedicated to the study of bones and skeletons located in Oklahoma City. Around 350 skeletons of animal species from all over the globe are on show at this museum.

This is the world’s biggest privately owned collection of osteological specimens, with another 7,000 specimens in the collection that are not on exhibit.

Myriad Botanical Gardens (View Map)

The Myriad Botanical Gardens is a 17-acre botanical garden and interactive urban park situated on the southwest corner of Reno and Robinson in downtown Oklahoma City.

Multiple layers of thoughtfully and carefully planted grounds surround a submerged lake at the Gardens. The Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory is its main attraction and is a 224-foot living plant museum with towering palm trees, tropical plants and flowers, waterfalls, and exotic animals.
