Looking for some fun and safe destinations to take your kids to play? If so, you may be interested in going to one or more of OKC’s most popular city parks. Below we’ve listed three of the best parks for kids of all ages.

1. Memorial Park

Memorial Park has shown remarkable flexibility and endurance in serving Oklahoma City citizens throughout its history. It no longer resembles Putnam Park, which was established in 1902. Israel M. Putnam, a prominent attorney and real estate developer, built the park that bears his name near the terminus of the new streetcar line.

The park, which was formerly a playground for residents of his Putnam Heights subdivision, was simply open grassland at the time. Putnam, on the other hand, supplied residents with a boating lake, pavilion, and picnic area.

This huge park became an important leisure place as the northwest part of the city developed quickly.

Memorial Park, being one of the city’s oldest parks, has evolved and adapted with it. In the 1920s, the community argued whether a magnificent boulevard or a beautiful arch near the Capitol would be the finest way to commemorate the sacrifice of World War I troops.

Finally, in 1928, it was determined that renaming Putnam Park Memorial Park would be the most appropriate memorial to “soldiers of all wars and future conflicts.” The lake has been replaced with a fountain that symbolizes rebirth and renewal.

2. Martin Park Nature Center

Martin Park Nature Center is more than simply a park; it is a family-fun destination for nature exploration and education for people of all ages.

Visitors may learn about nature and animals via guided walks, educational events, and an interactive learning center in a peaceful, suburban setting.

Please observe Martin Park Nature Center regulations and practices so that everyone may enjoy the park for years to come. The principles of “Leave No Trace.” Please stick to the authorized paths, avoid collecting flora, and avoid approaching animals.

3. Lake Hefner

Lake Hefner is regarded as one of the finest bird-watching spots in central Oklahoma. During their yearly migrations across America’s central flyway, dozens of aquatic bird species soar along the 17-mile coastline.

From April through October, weekend sailboat competitions are conducted on Lake Hefner, which is a great lake for sailing enthusiasts.

Picnic areas and fishing piers are also accessible. Camping and swimming are not permitted.

The Oklahoma City Boat Club is situated on Lake Hefner’s east coast. The US Yacht Racing Union and the Central State Sailing Association are both affiliated with this members-only club. The club organizes a number of open charity regattas as well as public events.

Sports fields, playgrounds, picnic areas, golf, and vast walk/run/bike paths may be found in the surrounding parks.
