Oklahoma County Health Department Plans to Offer COVID-19 Booster Shot

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department said it will provide a third vaccination after US health authorities advised all Americans to receive COVID-19 booster doses.

The CDC and other top authorities recommended an additional dosage eight months following the first round of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. The dosages may start Sept. 20.

As the extremely infectious delta strain spreads quickly, health authorities say it is “very clear” that the vaccinations’ protection against infection is waning.

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department announced on Thursday that booster doses will be available on Sept. 20.

They will start giving booster injections to those who have been completely vaccinated for eight months after the FDA recently approved the proposal.

“Our top priority remains staying ahead of the virus and protecting the American people from COVID-19 with safe, effective, and long-lasting vaccines, especially in the context of a constantly changing virus and epidemiologic landscape,” according to a recent statement from HHS Public Health and medical experts. “We will continue to follow the science on a daily basis, and we are prepared to modify this plan should new data emerge that requires it.”
