Less than a week after classes opened in public school districts across Oklahoma, hundreds of kids are now back home in quarantine after being exposed to the COVID-19 virus. Parents call for action in the face of the rapid rise in new exposures while school officials are rendered helpless due to a recently signed law. Senate Bill 658 has expressly forbidden school districts from putting mask mandates into place while the area is not under a state of emergency. Oklahoma State Sen. Carrie Hicks has already called on the governor to declare a state of health emergency in the hopes that a mask mandate will be enforced.
