1. The Outsiders (1983) – 7.1 / 10

The Greasers, a juvenile gang in rural Oklahoma, are always at war with the Socials, a rival gang.

Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell) and Johnny (Ralph Macchio), Greasers, are forced to go into hiding after a fight that results in the death of a Social member.

Ponyboy and Johnny, as well as Dallas (Matt Dillon) and his other Greaser pals, will soon have to deal with the repercussions of their violent lifestyle.

While some Greasers attempt to redeem themselves, others die tragically.

2. True Grit (2010) – 7.6 / 10

After her father is murdered by an outlaw called Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), spunky 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) recruits Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), a drunken, trigger-happy lawman, to assist her in finding Chaney and avenging her father.

The squabbling pair aren’t alone in their search; a Texas Ranger called LaBoeuf (Matt Damon) is also on the lookout for Chaney for his own reasons.

The odd group embarks on a dangerous journey into enemy territory in order to administer some Old West justice.

3. Oklahoma! (1955) – 7.1 / 10

Curly (Gordon MacRae) asks Laurey (Shirley Jones) if she’ll be his date for the next box social. Unfortunately, Laurey believes he has waited too long and, in a fit of rage, accepts an offer from the obnoxious Jud (Rod Steiger).

Meanwhile, Laurey’s friend Ado Annie (Gloria Grahame) is divided between two men: Will (Gene Nelson), a cowboy, and Ali Hakim, a foreign merchant (Eddie Albert).

Both ladies are trying to figure out who they are and what their hearts desire before it’s too late.

4. Thelma & Louise (1991) – 7.5 / 10

On a brief fishing excursion, easily imposed housewife Thelma (Geena Davis) meets her independent waitress friend Louise (Susan Sarandon).

When Louise shoots and kills a guy attempting to rape Thelma outside a bar, their journey quickly becomes an escape from the law. Thelma accompanies Louise on her attempt to reach Mexico.

On the way, Thelma develops feelings for sultry young thief J.D. (Brad Pitt), while compassionate Detective Slocumb (Harvey Keitel) attempts to persuade the two ladies to surrender before their fates are sealed.

5. Splinter (2008) – 6.1 / 10

Polly Watt (Jill Wagner) and her boyfriend Seth Belzer (Paulo Costanzo) decide to check into a hotel after their preparations for a nature excursion go wrong.

Low-life criminals Dennis Farell (Shea Whigham) and Lacey Belisle (Rachel Krebs) carjack and abduct the couple as they drive to a local gas station.

They come into an ever-increasing swarm of parasites along the road and if any of them are to live, they’ll have to outwit the unknown deadly creatures.
