Oklahoma Honoring National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month

This year, National Hispanic Heritage Month will start on the 15th of September and end on the 15th of October. It is a way to celebrate America’s Latino culture. Along with celebrating America’s Latino culture, it also coincides with Latin American independence days, like Belize, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua.

In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson started a week-long celebration of Hispanic heritage, but in 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded the celebration to a month. This year, we will be celebrating Hispanic and Latino contributions to our state’s history with some local events.

  • Mayan Art Exhibit and the Guatemalan Cultural Celebration
  • Guatemalan Textiles: Heart of the Maya World
  • Festival Amistad 2021
  • Kids Take Over the Cowboy Museum
  • Fiestas de Las Americas
