Oklahoma City Zoo Invites People to Take Part in the Plastic Free EcoChallenge

Plastic Free EcoChallenge OKC City Zoo

The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden is urging visitors to abandon single-use plastics in their daily lives.

The zoo will take part in the Plastic Free EcoChallenge in July.

According to officials, throwaway plastic products such as shopping bags, straws, and bottles are wreaking havoc on seas and other aquatic ecosystems.

Participants receive eco-points for using less plastic, recycling, converting to reusable goods, and committing to make other environmentally beneficial improvements.

To campaign against single-use plastics, the OKC Zoo staff rejected over 950 straws, 1,019 plastic bottles, 1,104 pieces of plastic cutlery, cleaned up 2,606 pieces of trash, signed 34 petitions, and attended four different community events in 2020.

Following a seventh-place finish in 2019, the OKC Zoo team finished third among all participating organizations with this joint effort.

What is the EcoChallenge?

EcoChallenge, which has been powered by EcoChallenge.org since 2009, is an online educational platform that encourages you to take action on environmental and social problems that are important to you.

According to conventional opinion, it takes at least three weeks to alter a habit: if you can stay with new behavior for 21 days in a row, we feel you’re far more likely to keep it up indefinitely.

How Do I Register for EcoChallenge?

If this is your first EcoChallenge, go to the event webpage and complete the form. Following the completion of your profile, you will be able to search for a team, establish a new one, or join the Community Team.

Can I Be On More than One Team?

No, participants are allowed to switch teams as frequently as they like, but they can only be on one team at a time.
