It may not surprise you to hear that pizza is one of the most popular foods on the planet.
In the United States, 350 slices of pizza are consumed every second, with 40 percent of people eating pizza at least once a week.
Pizza is as popular as it is for a reason. Foods that are fatty, sweet, rich, and complicated appeal to the masses. All of these ingredients can be found in pizza. The sauce is sweet, the cheese is greasy, and the meat toppings are usually rich.
Glutamate, which can be found in tomatoes, cheese, pepperoni, and sausage, are also abundant in pizza toppings. When glutamate reaches our tongues, it signals our brains to become stimulated – and to want more. Our tongues start to wet in anticipation of the next bite because of this chemical racing through our brains.
Then there are the ingredient combinations. Cheese and tomato sauce are a match made in heaven. They’re tasty enough on their own. Culinary scientists claim that they contain flavor ingredients that make them taste even better when consumed together.
So it makes sense that you would want to consume the tastiest, most glutamate producing pizza you can get your hands on.
If you live in the Oklahoma City area, you’re in luck as we’ve made a list of the best-rated pizzerias in town. Enjoy!

#1 Falcone’s Pizzeria
4.6 Stars (932 Reviews)
Falcone, a New Yorker, had traveled to Oklahoma to see an Army buddy and work on a real estate deal, with the intention of staying for two weeks. The lack of true Italian food, particularly the neighborhood pizzeria with pizza by the slice and deli sandwiches, was one of the first things he noticed the city needed. As a result, he launched his first pizzeria on May Avenue, where he currently sells pizza by the slice, calzones, deli sandwiches, and a large range of antipasti imported from Italy. He also sells items from his homeland, such as dry pasta, sauces, and olive oils.
#2 Pizzeria Gusto
4.5 Stars (974 Reviews)
With a succession of well-appointed, modern fast-casual concepts, owners Chris Lower and chef Kathryn Mathis have taken Oklahoma City’s dining scene by storm. With Pizzeria Gusto, the dynamic duo may have built their finest achievement by combining an elegant bar and great table-service with an overall vibrant atmosphere.
The main goal of Pizzeria Gusto is to honor and serve the pizza tradition of Naples, Italy, which is known for its pizza that those who seek to serve it must adhere to strict rules in order to sell their pies as Neapolitan. The outcome is a thin-crust pizza with an irresistible char to it.
#3 Rendezvous Pizza
4.6 Stars (92 Reviews)
On June 1, Rendezvous Pizza opened in Bricktown, bringing Detroit pizza to OKC’s entertainment center. Rendezvous is owned by Bricktown Brewery Restaurants and is located next to the Bricktown Brewery on Sheridan. Rendezvous, which serves pizzas, wings, and salads in the styles best known in Detroit and New York, is the first of what Buck Warfield, president of Bricktown Brewery Restaurants, believes will be many more.
Warfield’s history with Detroit pizza dates back to his days in Ann Arbor, where he frequented Buddy’s Rendezvous, the style’s birthplace since 1946.
For the time being, Rendezvous Pizza’s menu is purposefully limited, with only two types of pizza, daily slices (and squares), wings, garlic bread, meatballs, and salads.
#4 Hideaway Pizza
4.6 Stars (2,024 Reviews)
Hideaway Pizza first opened its doors in Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 1957. Its first location was on the corner of 3rd and Knoblock in Stillwater, near the Oklahoma State University campus.
The restaurant began opening pizzerias outside of Stillwater in 1993. There are eight restaurants in Oklahoma City, seven in Tulsa, and one in Bartlesville, with three more locations in Arkansas as of June 2020.
Pizza, salads, pastas, and sandwiches are what Hideaway Pizza is known for and they won’t let you down.
#5 Empire Slice House
4.7 Stars (3,746 Reviews)
Empire Slice House is a landmark on Oklahoma City’s Plaza District strip on NW 16th Street. The storefront is dominated by a “EMPIRE” marquee. Its enticing aromas are often smelled from way down the street. Passers-by are enticed into the metal door by Ellie, a pink elephant statue at the entrance.
The New York-style pizzeria isn’t your typical slice restaurant. It’s a full-service, diverse sit-down restaurant with a full bar. The owners wanted to make an impact on the pizza scene and proudly tell patrons that their restaurant is like “Frank Sinatra and David Bowie had a pizza baby.”
